# Aurora Forecast And Dark Skies

> Aurora visibility is strongest when geomagnetic activity, latitude, weather, moonlight, and low light pollution align.

Light Pollution Map includes a NOAA-based aurora probability layer to help users combine northern lights forecasts with local sky darkness.

## What The Aurora Layer Helps With

- Estimate whether aurora activity may be visible near a selected region.
- Compare dark viewing locations away from city lights.
- Combine aurora probability with cloud cover, moon phase, and light pollution.
- Plan photography locations where foreground darkness and sky activity are both favorable.

## Important Limits

Aurora forecasts are probabilistic. A high forecast does not guarantee visibility, and a low forecast does not make aurora impossible. Local weather, horizon direction, camera sensitivity, and timing can change results.
